Industry and leisure have both played an important part in the development of modern Basildon. As the New Town grew, large areas were created for factories, businesses and employment, while new leisure facilities gave residents places to meet, relax and enjoy their free time.
This section of Basildon.info brings together some of the best-known industrial and leisure locations in the town, from the major employment areas at Pipps Hill and St Hilary's to the Ford Tractor Plant, which became an important part of Basildon's industrial history.
Basildon's leisure facilities also changed considerably as the town developed. The Mayflower and, later, Festival Leisure Park became familiar destinations for generations of local residents and visitors.
Use the links above to explore each location individually. The separate pages will contain photographs, memories and more detailed information about their history and how they changed over the years.
